About our Association

MAVESZ MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

  • Professional Representation and Development: Our goal is to effectively represent professional interests of Hungarian chemical industry enterprises and promote their development.
  • Regulations and Relationships: We continuously monitor legislation, maintain relationship with authorities and media to present the perspectives of the chemical industry.
  • European Dimension: Thanks to our EU membership, we also operate at the EU level, particularly in the fields of environmental protection, safety, and professional development.
  • Professional Network and Information: We collaborate with Hungarian Members of the European Parliament, other professional organizations, European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), and European Chemical Employers Group (ECEG) to more effectively represent our sector.
  • Employer Cooperation: Through the Chemical Industry Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee, we facilitate employer-employee dialogue and support relationship building and development at both domestic and EU levels.

MAVESZ HISTORY

  • 1990

    FORMATION OF MAVESZ

    Hungarian Chemical Industry Association was founded on June 5, 1990, by unanimous decision of 13 chemical industry companies. Later, more than 30 additional companies joined, and as a result, the representative organization now covers 80-85% of the chemical industry. Its members include leading petrochemical companies, fertilizer and pesticide manufacturers, carbon fiber producers, producers of specialty and fine chemicals, as well as chemical industry distributors and importers. Two trade associations, Hungarian Paint Manufacturers' Association (MAFEOSZ) and Plastic Pipe Manufacturers' Association (MCSSZ), are also part of MAVESZ's activities.

    JOINING EUROPEAN CHEMICAL INDUSTRY COUNCIL (CEFIC)

    MAVESZ joined European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), Brussels-based advocacy organization representing European chemical companies and associations, in 1992, and in 2005, it also became a member of European Chemical Employers Group (ECEG).

    ESTABLISHMENT OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY SECTORAL SOCIAL DIALOGUE COMMITTEE

    In 2005, MAVESZ and Chemical Industry Workers' Trade Union (VDSZ) established Chemical Industry Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee, which has since effectively carried out the tasks of employer-employee consultations, information exchange, and professional consultations, contributing to maintaining fair relations and partnership between the two sides.
  • 2013

    ESTABLISHMENT OF EXCELLENT CHEMICAL ENGINEERING STUDIES AWARD

    To support chemical engineering education at Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the University of Pannonia in Veszprém, hungarian Chemical Industry Association's Board established the Excellent Chemical Engineering Studies Award in 2013. Each year, a graduating chemical engineering (M.Sc.) student from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at BME and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Pannonia receives the award based on the university's recommendation. Since 2021, the award has also been extended to the University of Debrecen's chemical engineering program.

    JOINING RESPONSIBLE CARE® PROGRAM

    In Hungary, MAVESZ and its member companies have been involved in Responsible Care® program since early 1990’s. Initially, more than 30 chemical manufacturers and significant hazardous materials storage and distribution companies joined the program. The leaders of these companies also signed the Responsible Care Universal Declaration adopted in 2006. Chemical companies that meet program's requirements can receive a Responsible Care certification. In 2014, Hungarian Chemical Industry Association initiated an independent certification program for its members, further strengthening their commitment to the principles and goals of Responsible Care.

    FOCUS ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    Ensuring professional development and training of skilled workforce has taken on an increasingly important role in the lives of member companies and, as a result, in the Association. After several successful events on this topic, MAVESZ General Assembly approved the Association's professional development strategy. As part of this strategy, MAVESZ is actively participating in career guidance and middle- and upper-level vocational training programs and events in cooperation with its member companies, partners involved in career guidance and training, and partner associations. The goal is to help young people orient themselves toward the chemical industry.
  • 2022

    FOCUS ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    The provision of professional workforce and the training of skilled workers has played an increasingly important role in the life of the member companies and thus of the association. Following several successful events organized on the topic, MAVESZ General Assembly approved MAVESZ's Professional Development Strategy. As part of this, MAVESZ is actively participating in career guidance and vocational and higher education training programs and events, aiming to assist young individuals in orienting themselves toward the chemical industry in collaboration with our member companies and partners involved in career guidance and education.

    RENEWAL OF RESPONSIBLE CARE® PROGRAM

    In line with international initiatives, Responsible Care® program has been renewed in Hungary. Within the program of our Annual General Assembly, member companies solemnly renewed their commitment to the program.
